I was asked by Sarah Crowner from Dexter Sinister to print the invitation card for an exhibition of her work at Nicelle Beauchene gallery in New York.
Sarah wanted the card to be a close reproduction of a beautiful Max Bill cover design for a book by Johannes Itten. The challenge was to achieve this using a 2 color Risograph machine and find a way to get a reasonable match to the 7 colors in the original design.
The final card was run through the Riso press 7 times and featured a mix of solid and halftones with some overprinting. Essentially, the final product is the printing equivalent of a Nintendo cartridge hack.
The card size is 5.5” x 4” and 100 were printed.
